Calcined
Discipline
Great Dane Records
Calcined`s new album is a maximum music brutality for fans of chaotic and very intense death metal. Discipline has songs with common characteristics. Averagely, they play fast paced songs which sound rather similar to each other. It`s really hard to give you a name of any particular track that stands out from the album which may says that the band is still seeking for their own style. I do not suggest that they even try to achieve it though.
Calcined`s music is heavily inspired by the bands like Suffocation and Cannibal Corpse but I would not say these bands sound the same which is a bit optimistic. Discipline has brutal death metal songs, mixed with technical death metal and little slam death metal in places. If you are regular fan of those genres, this album is not that bad. If you expect something fresh out of this record musically - they hardly can give it to you. This album just sounds like a death metal riot.
Vocals are little surprise because there are not much growls in this records, which would be a better fit to the music of this Swiss band, in my opinion. Their singer tries to sing hideously which just sound awfully good. I have to admit that I needed some time to get used to his vocals and set me calm. If you prefer deep, guttural growls and such, this aspect of their music may be a disappointment for you.
Sound and studio production of Discipline is what I would expect from brutal metal album. You know, it`s no trouble to get to the core of their music whatsoever.
It`s good, underground death metal album, just no fireworks.
