Beyond The Event Horizon
Leaving The 3rd Dimension
Independent
Leaving The 3rd Dimension is a little surprise release, an instrumental album by Polish band Beyond The Event Horizon.
They hit the spot perfectly with the choice of the opening track for the album. Song Dark Matter goes with kind of sci-fi futuristic keyboards, pleasing post-rock rhythm section and subtle drumming. Nothing is rushed here, everything fits, and music has a bit unsettling thrill, which is all it takes to dive into the songs of the band with greater interest...
Deep has more active rock/bluesy drumming, blurry keyboards and fuzzy guitars here and there. The entire music is just so easy to listen to, which is what I want to point out regarding this whole album.
They added more metal sound to heavier guitar riffs in track Together which have that simple flow, like as if the music was a journey, which is so characteristic to their songs. A person who does all programming stuff for the band ( Tytus Adamczewski) has a great perception of what should and what should not be in music, by which all spacey arrangements, soundscapes and synthesizer layers meets perfectly in points where music sounds beautiful and is quite persuasive. A bit of Pink Floyd or Rush (song Leaving The 3rd Dimension) influences are in music, but it is nothing that sound definitely progressive, however music in many ways sounds very imaginative.
The album after 2 first songs sounds more post-metal, in track Away From Home it`s getting heavier and groovier, even vintage Hammond organ is like a time machine to 70`s rock (the man in BTEH knows his job!).
Album has mainly middle tempos that fully express all ideas of the band. If they have had this album played faster or slower it would probably felt wrong.
Song that shows off even more drum samplers and electronic effects is Inverted Sunrise. Fuzzy guitar distortions are nicely polished, calm fragments find its symbiosis with sombre atmospherics and from time to time, solid metal riffs wake you up from the dream. I do not even know when those 8 minutes were gone while I listened to the song of this band, but it`s just the sign that music does properly its job.
New Chapter has more dynamics of all instruments, keyboards sound like a ticking clock sometimes and has some dystopian atmosphere of Blade Runner movie (way more in the first track too). You can`t go wrong with this album if you generally expect no disappointments.
Nine song confirms that modestly played music can still be very rich emotionally. Music of this album eases my mind, which is something that everybody needs sometimes, right(?)...
I think it`s a brilliant album, maybe some songs I like better from others, but it does not change my mind about the music that I think is very well written. And I like it`s only instrumental record, I really have nothing against instrumental songs at all.
Beside keyboardist, in the band there are: Adam Kowalka-guitars, Pawel Michalowski on drums and Maciej Hildebrandt on bass.
