Beuthen/This Cold
Listopad Split EP
Infernum Media
I am enthusiastic and open to releases like this one. Those 2 bands are new for me and it`s great to have a sample of their music to see whether I like them or not.
Beuthen is a Polish, Silesian band and this Ep contains their one song called Zjawa. It`s sang entirely in their national language with clean and grumpy vocals but with some emotional approach like despair and sorrow in vocal lines. Music is very nostalgic and sort of dramatic and I could point some doom fragments in their music, also alternative rock-metal elements. I am pretty sure that for fans of later albums of Anathema, Katatonia this song is just introduction to a very promising band they have potential to become. Hope they can fulfil their further expectations so Poland could have another great band on the horizon. I think it`s accuratelly Beuthen released another EP first because they still have to work out their way for a full album which I am sure will pay off if they rush no things too early.
Also, This Cold shares this split with just a single track. They have a female vocalist who sings in English this time. It is very Polish/English but if you ever meet a person who speaks English from born, they will like you for your own accent, not for attempt to imitate theirs. It`s just more sexy lads and girls, I know from experience...
Music wise the song Paradoxes is not metal but more like darken, alternative gothic/rock driven by melodic guitars in a realm of illusion and psychological struggle which are lyrics. I think I could enjoy it much more if I heard more songs in case of this band. Only one track just awakes my curiosity and does not give me any key answers on This Cold. I can just write that this song has ”something” and I hope to hear from them again but with more new original compositions.
Putting these two bands on one CD, with completaly different visions on music was a very clever move from whoever person decided to do so.
A CD version has additional multimedia. A 3 video clips in total and that material comes from their past releases so you also get a visual treatment that let you know both bands much better.
