Refuse To Rot
Great Dane Records
Tomas Skogsberg put his hands on this album at Sunlight studio and did his magic with final mixes and mastering. Drums and pedals just sounds fantastic, guitars has his famous crusty and powerful sound that he has created back in 80/90`s. The record has his production signature that you surely know from classic death metal albums like Left Hand Path, Clandestine released by mighty Entombed. Of course, among other big releases.
Refuse To Rot sounds as you would expect it from Swedish death metal but with little upgraded production overall which is even better than ever.
Befouled on the other hand comes from Norway but for me the album is so good that nationality of those guys does not matter at all. Do not judge this album for its front cover. The music on this CD is better than everything you can see and I can hardly believe myself that I still love this death metal sound and buzz that Befouled gives me. If you are into bands like Krypts, Aeon which I am, then you will march into fire to get this album in your hands. Simplicity of songs is equal to quality of music. They have it all accurately arranged in music and I can fully enjoy finest music of recent months. Nothing seems coincidental here. Vocals, low tuned guitars and everything else is just tracked down where is supposed to be. Eventually, you could trace some music similarities to other bands but it`s still very refreshing and genuinely sounding 2018 album that it is as brutal as it is catchy on its unique way. My favorite tracks are Intro, Refuse To Rot, Tales From The Tomb, Rest In Pieces, Warpath, but men, the rest of it is pretty amazing too.
I quickly have asked myself if it could be one of the best 2018 albums so far and I scream my answer to you: Fuck yeah, it is indeed!
