Archer
Culling The Weak
Metalville/Rough Trade DigiCD
American heavy metal is still enigmatic and undiscovered by me so every record I have opportunity to review is kind of learning about that scene which is without a doubt a huge, with all cool surprises that I hope to face as this magazine grows up day by day.
First of all I like the album title and all 8 songs as those are band representatives for year 2015 and they are fine. Archer is a heavy metal trio with rock and a bit prog influences. Songs are easy to approach by listener with melodic riffs but nothing too complicated and you are able to sing some parts of it if you know album well. I favour a title song for example, among others. All you can get here are pretty written, decent songs with nice rhythms but nothing to die for. Has to admit that Dylan Rose plays his solos with great commitment and that`s what I found for myself very exciting as well. In places bass parts are more eerie and has more space for diversity and I would enjoy it even more, you know... Album suffers no presence of second guitarist that could make sounds a band more powerful and reaching out new musical horizons as every person, musician can bring individually. Culling the weak has been recorded by 2 drummers and that shows a bit of line up inconsistency but they are good band and this is bright album and all is possible for them.
