Aggressive Mutilator
Det Djävlanästet
Defense/Mythrone Promotion
After taking a quick look at band`s discography, it showed me that they are releasing their music totally old school way. Between 2012 to 2020 Aggressive Mutilator has released over 10 demo tapes and compilations, plus 2 full length albums – 2018 Det Djävlanästet is their last one so far.
Similar situation is with music of this Swedish band. They take it to the roots of metal ugliness and pile of corpses.
Few influences came to the game when band`s influences appeared in their music. It`s 80`s sound of the album and Mikael Holm vocal reminiscences come from Dead of Mayhem or Fenriz of Dark Throne. His menacing vocals with few vomits here and there are the soil of the record. He also plays guitars. Behind the drum kits sits Micael Zetterberg who does not plays any modern stuff like triggers-no fucking way this would help the record sound any better. He hits drums old ways and also played bass on the record. This make Aggressive Mutilator the band of two members.
Det Djävlanästet is played in a black thrash style, more than black metal, however it`s a clumsy mix of both. The album sounds very rough, like the band hated everything that could take them away from 80`s metal vibe, so they came up with the sound to their music that is dusty, unclear and evil. The album was done in normal studio but sounds as if it was recorded in a basement, for me, it totally works and there are no problems with hearing the actual music that could be easily another demo tape of theirs.
Aggressive Mutilator plays songs primitively - thrash-punky chaotic riffs and I have 3 tracks that I appreciate for music and that 80`s rude sound that pretty much work for me in 2020 as well.
Best tracks in my opinion are Hypocrite Church for melo-catchy guitars that open the song, Ripper Bastard for vocals and Victim#59 for guitar lead and vocals too.
If you remember first wave of black metal, this record is about that, it`s just thrashier album which should not be a problem for fans of classic, Scandinavian and evil sounding metal.
