A Violet Pine
Again
Independent
In the past, the band used synthesizers and keyboards in larger scale for writing the music but for this album, they completely gave it up. Something tells me that it's probably for better. This 7 tracks album sounds very organic - up to the bone. It`s not metal album but their stone(r)-gaze songs are nonetheless as interesting as metal music.
Arrangements on the record have a bit melancholy and nostalgic hint in music but with a lot of delightful groove and bass/guitar distortions. The music is literally drifting and flying in the room where I listen to this album. There is a sad note in the voice of the singer but I take it quite nicely, especially when they attempts to sing a bit more melodically (Black Lips, Monster). There are equally guitars distortions and spaces where you can hear more settled and overdrive rock music moments in these songs.
Self titled track is unbelievably well written tune which has that interstellar spiritualism of infinity of the universe. It`s very nice, moody song with unique chemistry, a bit ominous and perhaps little frightening but just great. For me, it`s the highlight of the album.
The other vibrant tracks are Interstellar Love - instrumentally it has a lot of diversity and very good drumming. Also When Boys Steal Candles have very cool post rock guitar arrangements in a 4th minute of this track. A Monster song has a nice mood hatch between rock and stoner. I have to tell you that anytime they switch on fuzz distortions for guitars and bring that groove with the music, then A Violet Pine sounds really amazing. It happens in Z00 and of course, in Run Dog, Run! songs also. My favourite track as I wrote before is Again but overall album interests me as a whole.
