A Flourishing Scourge
As Beauty Fades Away
Begotten Records CD
I do not know where the feeling come from but I have endless sympathy for bands like A Flourishing Scourge which music I have approached many times and still leaves me meaningless. This is debut EP of Americans from Washington and a nice released digipak CD contains 4 songs and a bit grotesque cover art.
The band is scrupulous in their progressive death metal where some Cynic influences stands for good reference but it is nothing obvious as the band could not go so far with their music at this point. What they offer instead is developing atmosphere of the songs with awesome harmonic lines which I explore each time in songs Infected and S/T. There are many calming moments and this might be misinterpretation but they are not pushing themselves further as a band so things are handled in proper way and are not overdone by time being. Drumming and vocals are very enjoyable to hear throughout. In continuum is black metal influenced but I presume for more band`s death metal edge in the future as written in Of The Tormented and Sick and my acclaimed number one-opening track.
Anyway, Songs in this EP have relaxation effect on me after all as the band is far away of being purposely brutal-extreme or anything like that. It`s not a case here and I take it as advantage. A Flourishing Scourge awakes my curiosity and I am looking forward to see their next step as they are smarter than it seems.
