Second album of Finnish Wrathrone is having a sound reminiscent of Swedish death metal pioneers (Entombed, Dismember) mixed with 90`s Finnish death metal that often occurs to me as melodic metal with massive sound. There is a beast in this album and in character of songs and you should hear its voice...
Singer of this band uses enormously deep and brutal growling vocals, and even then, he tries to adjust himself to the shape of the songs, trying to approach his vocal lines in flexible way.
In this album, Wrathrone based their songs on heaviness and crushing riffs, just as you know it from that classic, Swedish death metal sound. I think that Wrathrone goes a bit further with their music than many other bands that keeping Scandinavian sound alive, since late 80`s and 90`s. Wrathrone is breaking the usual patterns to get better quality of their songs, without limiting the creativity of their own arrangements. They enrich the rhythmic section with many incredible leading passages that overall sound amazing, in depth of this production. At points, where brutality meets melodic harmonies, they sound surprisingly astonishing. Even if songs are a bit obscure, the powerful sound kisses your senses and does the rest to get into you.
The one could argue that the album is not that original but my answer is: I do not fucking care. I like it and I dig it. I think Reflections of Torment is incredible record - a wrath from Valhalla and my time machine to best off of death metal from Finland and beyond. It`s a trouble to find only 2-3 best tracks among all, from the tracklist... So, just trusting my instinct, I'll tell you that Reflections Of Torment will find honorable place in my collection for being truly death metal album.
