Sea Of Disorder
Merging Land And Sky
Talheim Records
Ghost Of Yesterday is an interesting track for two reasons. Firstly, band`s ability to get you into atmosphere of the song is quick by quality song writing. Slow paced doom post-rock music of the band is very guitars-drums driven, once you here it, you let your music sensibilities to experience it. Secondly, the idea to use a post-metal guitar distortions works. Guitarists layered rock and metal riffs melts in contradiction of sounds that coexist as a whole, but in the end, this song just explode with massive metal sound. I like musical contrast between post rock and metal that the band created here. A third reason why the song is not great are growling vocals (Jason Watkins, also on keyboards) which sounds just rigid, lacks quality aesthetics - the music they play here instrumentally just deserve better singing from what I just heard.
Approximately 15 minutes long song 1953 is a magnificently blooming post-rock colossus. A marvellous, melodic guitar layers and a delightful guitar groove can make you dream with your eyes open.
S/t song involves another, so much better metal vocalist (Joshua Wing). All sound doomier and much heavier at this point of the album. Production of drums and other instruments sound amazing, but it hits me particularly here.
Falling Giants has some bluesy guitar distortions, however, the song still sounds very rock and metal all together. It`s more diverse and better structured song of the band.
Third singer (all people mentioned in the review are guest musicians) is Thomas Torsson. His moody/melodic/clean vocals sound pretty good in the song As The Clouds Disperse. Music is a mix of calmer, atmospheric bluesy post-rock by play, with a little touch of metal guitar sounds.
Horizon is the closing track. It`s second time tuba features in music of the band, played by Oscar Reyes. It`s very bassy sounding instrument, I very enjoy fitness and presence of it in the song. This track strikes with some eerie heaviness, deep-audible bass, it`s more dynamically played post-rock/metal composition of the band. I really enjoy last minutes of the album where music gravitates toward spacey, Pink Floyd`ian sounds, of more ominous thrill to it...
Best tracks; 1953, Horizon.
