Inverted Mind
Broken Mirror
Defense Records

Picture
New album from sludge band - Inverted Mind brings 9 songs and there are few really strong tracks I`d like introduce to you if you haven`t heard yet. First of all, the sound of Broken Mirror is rusty, dirty, ugly and just bear in mind that it`s much better this way.

My best track is S/T song which has became my favourite at once. The band uses guitar distortions here twists the music a bit (at 3:30 mins) and the atmosphere is very terrifying and thrilling. Not only in this moment of the album Inverted Mind takes you into a hypnotic trance because the pace of the song (and the album too) is on the edge of doom. Broken Mirror is highly interesting song that sounds amazing and nightmare`ish. I assume the band Godflesh would like to have this track in the repertoire which would not surprise me at all.

Quick jump to the last track – Let Your Freedom Be Your Grave. I like little paranoid atmosphere in this song, guitar experimentation with sound and screaming vocals. After five - short minutes, it`s few seconds of silence and the song continues with repeatable but incredible, sludgy riffs. All those voices they used here (great job in mixing and putting it in right places) – have more use as a background to the music but it`s about to drive you insane,  because those are very negative emotions they deal with at this point.

Back to the beginning of the album which is a track Cold Breath. They sound here like they wanted to crush you by the sound and then dance on your remains. It`s terrifying, cold song. In Deep Hole there are few rare and subtle vocal parts I like but overall it`s a good track too.

They do not compromise their style with much melodies on the album. This may sound like a paradox but they do not need it (and I don`t want it from them). They are much better with this imperfectly creepy and rusty sound - believe it is.

If you need some dynamic songs then Self-Portrait, Subconscious and
Lost In My Own Fears are the ones that fulfill its lively role but those are not my favorites. I prefer Inverted Mind when they play those slow and obscure songs which I think are much better.

My final conclusion is that tracks 2(!),9, 5, 6  are colossal, sound tremendous and should set the future direction of this very interesting band from Cracow/Poland.
